Water Softeners Sized to Your Actual Water

Hard water is common in our region, but the right answer is not guessing from a ZIP code. Bring Mesa Valley a water sample. We can measure key indicators, explain the results and help match the softener to the home's hardness and demand.

Softener vs. Water Conditioner

Ion-Exchange Softener

Removes calcium and magnesium hardness ions. Uses resin, salt/brine and regeneration.

TAC Scale Control

Template Assisted Crystallization is a salt-free scale-control approach. It does not remove hardness minerals or create true soft water.

Test Before Choosing

Hardness level, household demand and treatment goals determine which approach makes sense.

Water Softener FAQs

What does a water softener remove?

A cation-exchange water softener removes hardness minerals, primarily calcium and magnesium, by exchanging them for sodium or potassium ions.

Should a softener be sized to the home's water?

Yes. Incoming hardness, household water use, capacity and regeneration settings all matter. Mesa Valley recommends testing first and sizing to the application.

Does a water conditioner do the same thing as a softener?

Not necessarily. A true ion-exchange softener removes hardness minerals. Scale-control technologies such as TAC condition hardness behavior but do not remove calcium and magnesium or produce true soft water.
